Our Tiny House Adventure: Sealing the Deal.

The Most Magical Place on Earth. Sandia Peak, ABQ NM. October 2011.
Further update: here is a post with the final update on working with Scott. There is a link in there to my husband’s great post. Needless to say, we do not recommend working with Scott as a builder. To view progress of the tiny house we decided to build ourselves, please click here.

We are currently having issues with Scott as a builder. If you have further questions, please feel free to contact me. Thanks for reading.
Last week, we signed the contract and put down a deposit for our tiny house. It’s time to reveal the builder: Scott Stewart of Slabtown Customs! Scott has been a complete professional and a pleasure to work with in these early stages. I can’t tell you how excited we are that this is moving forward. I find myself daydreaming about our house during moments where I need a boost. To think that by Thanksgiving we’ll be inhabiting our own, debt-free home is absolutely thrilling.

I mentioned last week that Casey and I have been going through our possessions once again. At this point it really is more nesting than culling. What will fit, what won’t. What do we love, what is important enough to have the honor of being placed inside of our home? This house is being built like a glove. Every single detail is one that we have chosen. When I think of our possessions within a greater space, it’s easier to go through things. What will accompany us in this next phase of our lives?

I’m already viewing our home as a true sanctuary. How magical is that?

P.S.-I’ll be posting photos as Scott sends them to us. He expects to start building in the near future.

I spoke to many tiny home owners before I ordered my tiny house from Scott. I have worked with many contractors in my day and have to say that buying a tiny home from Scott of Slabtown Customs was one of the very best purchases I have ever made. I LOVE my quality tiny home built by Slabtown Customs and hopefully you will allow this comment to be posted so that people can also see BOTH sides and different opinions about Scotts work. I would definitely recommend Slabtown Customs. Here is my blog – http://www.ShabbyChicTinyRetreat.blogspot.com

      Hi Tonita,

Of course your comment will remain posted. It was actually your house that led us to work with Scott. I am glad you received and are enjoying your tiny home. I do recall going back through comments you made on the Tiny House Blog as well as your blog and piecing together a build timeline that was much longer than you had initially expected.
I’m also sorry to say it seems your completed house remains in the minority. I’ve spoken privately with half a dozen people whose houses never materialized or materialized in pieces (one quite literally). Only some of these people had their money returned in full. We consider ourselves fortunate that we received our money in the end, after much, much frustration, perseverance, and dedication. The time before that relief-filled day was filled with lies, deception, and a hearty lack of communication. Your house was obviously delivered, but there are more recent and frequent events in which people did not have the same outcome. The best indicator of future behavior is the majority of past behavior.
      Thanks for stopping by!
